O-Party 2007
So, O-Party, the official start to Wollongong University 's nightlife. Students arrived in droves, most having to wait in line at least half an hour in their 'hot' outfits and cool attitudes. I have to say, the highlight was definitely some ancient Creed song being played over the loudspeakers by the i98 host of the night. Lining up outside, there was enough i98 merchandise and advertisements on show to make one believe they were attending... actually, I can't say, I've never been to anything promoted by i98. Until now.
Let's move onto the less lucrative parts of the night: the live music. After enduring pop hits from pre 2000 and the painful shock-jock voice of said host, surely the band of the night were decent? Well, as any self respecting Arts student knows, everything is relative. The Suitable Few were extremely suitable considering what came before. Amid flourishes of dated rock guitars these boys provided a great show, evoking Beastie Boys and the energy of high-charged funk. These guys know how to work the crowd with a decent hit of Aussie-style hip hop, usually exhibiting a creative edge to their shows when they spontaneously jam out topics suggested by the crowd. No matter that yours truly was still waiting in line when they started; it was evident that the new students of UOW were getting their groove on. Plenty of summer fashion on show; plenty of drinking, queuing, chatting, and flirting; and plenty of sweat (even though it was raining for most of the night). Sounds like the UniBar to me. Welcome to 2007.
