Reggio Emilia
The staff at the centre are committed to the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. This approach is based on pre-primary and early childhood settings of the Northern Italian region of Reggio Emilia.
The region attracted worldwide attention and admiration in recent decades for its ideas, principles and practices in early childhood. Based on what we have seen and learnt, we feel that this approach highlights many aspects of best practice in the early childhood field.
We have adopted some of the ideas from this approach that are applicable to our culture and setting in Australia, and ideas that are equally suitable to the individual needs of the families that attend our centre.
The main philosophies of this approach include the following:
The centre resembles more of a home-like environment.
The programme is child-directed, based upon the groups’ interests and questions.

Emphasis is based on the process of learning and is, at times, documented in picture form for parents to witness and for the children to reflect upon.
NSW Curriculum Framework
The Practice of Relationships is a document that was distributed by the Department of Community Services and has been adopted into our philosophy at Kids' Uni. It is a set of principles, which guide practice and support children's learning in early childhood services.
The document focuses on the crucial role of early childhood professionals in bringing their theoretical and practical knowledge of children together with the knowledge of parents and families to work collaboratively in the creation of the most beneficial programs possible for children.
It is an affirmation of our current practices and highlights best practice for children's services while recognising the uniqueness of each centre.
Some of the ideas that form the framework, which we embrace here at Kids' Uni are:
Children, no matter how young, are respected contributing members of the community.
A child's experiences are both life and preparation for life
Respect is believing deeply that all people deserve to be treated with dignity, listened to, and have their views considered.
Early learning is particularly significant as it lays the foundation for all learning.
