Student Health Alliance for Rural Populations (SHARP)
Student Health Alliance for Rural Populations (SHARP) is the University of Wollongong's very own Rural Health Club, with over 500 members from a range of disciplines including medicine, nursing, population health, health science, medical science, nutrition and dietetic, exercise science, psychology, as well as anyone else with a keen interest in rural and remote health. SHARP is one of 29 Rural Health Clubs present in Universities across Australiaand part of the National Rural Health Students' Network (NRHSN).
Each year SHARP is involved in a range of activities including symposiums, Indigenous Festivals, rural High School visits, the Illawarra Police Charity Ball, a Rural Appreciation Weekend, national events such as Close the Gap Day and Mental Health Week, and lots more. 2009 is set to be a big year for SHARP with many events already on the Calendar.
Membership is $5/year and includes a SHARP T-shirt, discounts to some SHARP events, automatic membership of the National Rural Health Students Network (NRHSN), as well as opportunities to participate in and represent SHARP at conferences, rural/outback trip and festivals!
